Yes, we have moved to a new office within the same building in East Kowloon, HKSAR. The new office comes with more rooms, which means more privacy for some colleagues and enhanced security for clients’ documents. Plus, our linguists are now placed in a pool, as our drive to encourage more instant verbal communication (and thus enhance consistency) in handling large projects. All these improvements are made, as always, with our clients and fellow colleagues in mind.
As our 25th anniversary is just a few months ahead, we consider it a valuable opportunity to have an independent third party review our standard operation procedures (SOP). And we are delighted to report that we have just received an endorsement from a certification body in Beijing, which, upon scrutiny, certifies that our translation management system complies with ISO 17100:2015 and GB/T 19363.1-2022 and standards.
Taking pride in this achievement, everyone at Yao Shun will work together to optimize its SOP and continue to provide language solutions that live up to clients’ expectations in quality and quantity, as we strive to become the trusted partner for all.
The year-long countdown to our 25th anniversary early next year is launched today, as we are heavily in debt – of gratitude to our clients and staff for their unwavering support all over the years. Our pledge has remained the same since our inception – our word for you!
Today is one of the landmarks in our corporate development, as the newly opened representative office in Toronto will be able to better serve our clients along the east coats of Canada and US.
Elly passed the certification exam of STIBC,Canada from English into Chinese, and extended her certification to cover both Chi/Eng & Eng/Chi.
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Hong Kong Translation Society, Peter gave a talk titled “Last Chance for Hong Kong Business Translators – Moment of Truth: Boom or Gloom?” as one of the eleven speakers in the Translation Lecture Series. The talk, which was delivered online followed by an engaging Q&A session, attracted a good number of practising linguists and people keenly interested in the profession.
To enhance consistency in the use of terminology and the rendition of similar and identical sentences, training sessions were held in our Guangzhou Office to optimize the application of Trados. These training sessions, which should have been held in Macau if there had not been a lockdown, were well received as enhanced consistency boosted staff morale and productivity as well as job satisfaction.
Despite the ongoing pandemic, we met our staff representatives from Guangzhou face to face in Macau, as part of our drive to work out a contingency plan for COVID-19 and prepare for our subsequent training session. While a contingency plan was formulated, the training session that followed had to be postponed because of an unexpected lockdown of the city in response to the new wave of coronavirus.
Peter was upgraded to Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, UK, with membership postnominials becoming FCIL CL.
Owing to COVID-19, we cancelled our activities in celebration of our 20th Anniversary and, in the following months, had our fellow colleagues work from home as needed.
Elly passed the certification exam of STIBC, Canada from Chinese into English, and became Certified Translator.
Peter passed the certification exam of STIBC, Canada from English into Chinese and Chinese into English, and became Certified Translator (Eng/Chi & Chi/Eng).
Elly and Peter passed the newly available Chinese into English translation exam of ATA (previously not open to non-English native speakers), and became Certified Translators (Eng/Chi & Chi/Eng).
Time flies! Today marks the happy birthday of a language family that has been home to truly professional linguists for 17 years. Our thanks once again go to our colleagues for their dedication and clients for their trust.
We are delighted to open a new office in Vancouver, as this will enable us to provide clients with a seamless service by making use of the time difference across the Pacific Ocean.
We have moved to a new office of pretty much the same size, closer to Kowloon Bay MTR Station, Hong Kong. This new office offers a great view and is just 5 minutes’ walk to the MTR under a covered pavement. No wonder why it is well liked by our colleagues and clients.
We extend a warm welcome to two new members, Billy and Herman. As usual, they have gone through our highly demanding screening procedures and probation period to become one of the elites here.
Our senior manager Carrie left us today after 16 years of dedicated service, as she moved on to a new stage of life with our blessings. We thank her whole-heartedly for witnessing the organic growth of this company from a start-up to a well-established firm in the language profession.
As always, January is a month of celebration for Yao Shun guys as it marks the formation of a family whose members truly love language and translation. May we take this opportunity to thank our clients for their trust and care in the past 16 years, and renew our pledge to be their reliable partners in language solutions.
Efforts to expand our in-house teams and freelance database in the Greater China Region registered a success in 2015. Our offices in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Taipei are now better equipped with more talents to provide truly professional translation solutions for a wider array of corporate and private clients.
