熱情果當然不能令你的伴侶忽然熱情起來，可是，你可曾想過：「熱情」根本是促銷的騙局──故意錯譯？
「熱情果」只是香港的流行品名（內地通稱「西番蓮」），不少香港人糊裡糊塗，竟相信吃過熱情果會更熱情，可收催情之效。其實世上很多奇異古怪的食品都被稱為是催情食品，或有助增強性能力。可惜，熱情果不在名單之上。不過話說回來，這是一種「優之良果」，每100克只有46卡路里，含豐富維他命A、C及礦物質（鐵、銅、鎂等），還有大量植物纖維適合欲收身節食的人士(http://www.nutrition-and-you.com/passion-fruit.html)。
這種多酸少甜的水果英文叫做”passion fruit”，正式的名字該為西番蓮 （學名：Passiflora edulis），也叫百香果、巴西果（按巴西栗經常也被稱為巴西果，應予區別）或西番果，產於美洲的熱帶及亞熱帶地區，以巴西最多。
此物於1610年間傳入歐洲，當時西班牙傳教士發現此花，甚感珍奇，其花部的形狀極似基督之十字架刑具，柱頭上3個分裂，極似3根釘，花瓣紅斑恰似耶穌頭部被薔薇刺出血形象，5個花粉囊，恰似受傷傷痕，西班牙人以Passioflos名之，直譯就是「受難花」。
所以正當、準確、忠實的中譯大概該為「受難果」。
